(A) improvement of device reliability
To maintain the present condition of facilities,as well as to improve and strengthen the devices, materials and parts that constitute the facilities, high reliability and "freedom from maintenance " were set up as goals.
An overall rivision of standard (JRS) was implemented, and provisions for service life.MTBF.,aging hour at manufactuers, harsh condition testing and so forth were added.
(B) Introduction of monitoring system
Various sensors/detecters that could detect the condition of devices and monitoring system were developed, and by connecting the monitoring system to the CTC system4he condition of facilities was transmitted to a dispatch center and/or a maintenance depot. The introduction of remote monitoring system eliminated the need for some periodic inspection work.
(C) Introduction of inspection cars
Electrical inspection cars which check signal/telecommunication and trolly-wire facilities while running ,are loaded with instruments to inspect several items instantaneously. Inspection items related to signal / telecommunication are ATS-S ground coi ls. train detectors for level crossing, track circuit, and train radio waves.
(D) Introduction of new maintenance methods
a. Service life management: Exchange a device when it has reached the end of its life estimated in advance.
Value limit management: Monitor service devices and if they exceed the value limit ,readiust or replace them .As a result, maintenance work can be decreased.
